Radishes

'French Breakfast' is one of about fifteen varieties of radish listed by Wikipedia, but 'Chinese Dragon' doesn't appear to be the actual name of a variety.

Thompson & Morgan does offer a hybrid Chinese variety known as the Dragon. This is listed as a 'branded garden product'.

Wikipedia cites an article in the New York Times, which tells us that the oriental radish is known in its native lands as the daikon. This is "a sleek white root" that can be over a foot long. The entire plant is eaten, the the tops being choppped and eaten with green leaves.

Wikipedia adds that the daikon "is also sometimes called the Japanese radish, Chinese radish, Oriental radish or mooli (in India and South Asia).

The New York Times article opens with the thought that "Planting radish seed has always been considered the choice for children's gardens since everything happens so fast. When the seed is sown in well–prepared ground, germination occurs in about five days and in three to four weeks: harvest. The only challenge is to convince the young gardener that consuming the vegetable is fun, too."
